The Solana network is looking for some compelling use cases in the real world. Shortly after the network announced the rollout of a smartphone and a brick & mortar store, a Solana Summer Shandy beer has now been released.

BarrelDAO Releases Solana Summer Shandy Beer

The Solana Summer Shandy beer has been launched. However, unlike the Solana store and smartphone projects of the Solana Foundation and Solana Labs, this beer has been launched by BarrelDAO.

BarrelDAO is a user-governed brewery and distillery. Solana Summer Shandy will be released in limited quantities, including 16 packs of 333 beers. Each of the beers will be represented by a SOL non-fungible token (NFT) that will start being redeemed on Monday. Once it is redeemed, one can redeem the beer.

BarrelDAO will drop the NFTs on Magic Eden, an NFT marketplace created on the SOL blockchain. Each of the 16-pack is being sold for 1.35 SOL, which is equivalent to around $45 at the time of writing. The price includes the beer shipping to the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.

The beer is a sort of promotion for the projects built on the SOL network. The artwork references a wide range of Solana-based NFT projects alongside the unique avatars that come with the collections. Some of the projects represented in the imagery include Degenerate Ape Academy, Okay Bears, Solana Monkey Business, DeGods, etc.

The co-founder and CEO of Barrel Labs, Dave Goldman, has said that the company owns around 20 of the individual NFTs on the cans. However, 23 of these have been listed through licensing agreements reached with the holders of the NFTs.

NFT Commercialization

Most of the NFT projects available in the market allow the holders to commercialize their own artwork. They can use the artwork to create products or for other projects. one of the most commercialized NFTs is the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), which has been used in music videos, restaurants, alcohol, candy, packaging, and more.

However, there have been discussions about the intellectual property of NFTs. Yuga Labs, the company behind the BAYC NFT, has sparked controversy about whether the granted intellectual property can stand up in court. Last week, Galaxy Digital issued a report claiming that the Bored Ape license was contradictory in terms of IP ownership, saying that the company was misleading about the scope of NFT rights owned by NFT owners.
