A startup that has shocked the business world today has now suffered a recent breach. Indeed, China’s DeepSeek AI has been hit with a “large-scale malicious attack,” the company announced on its website Monday. Moreover, the development caused the platform to limit registration to Chinese phone numbers only.

DeepSeek AI Limits Registration After Malicious Attack

With the arrival of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the global demand for artificial intelligence products skyrocketed. The success of the platform saw the emergence of a brand-new industry. That arrival came with increased investment as well. Following its success, Microsoft (MSFT) spent $13 billion on the generative chatbot in what was called the “best money ever spent.”

However, the dominance of the US AI sector was put in jeopardy this week, as DeepSeek AI took the market by storm. A plethora of tech stocks plummeted with the arrival of the platform. Nvidia and Microsoft both fell as much as 12% and 4%, respectively.

However, the emerging Chinese startup is now running into its own roadblock. According to the DeepSeek AI website, the firm has employee registration limits as it faces “large-scale malicious attacks.”

To counter the attacks, DeepSeek is limiting who can register to create a new account. Specifically, they note that only those with a phone number based in China can have access. The development has not stopped the AI company from being the top free app on the Apple App Store.

The company noted that “existing users can log in as usual. ” Moreover, there has been no update regarding a timetable for registration to resume to its normal operations. Additionally, the platform had faced various status issues throughout Monday morning, according to a Business Insider report.
