View ChartVertex Protocol (VRTX) is an all-in-one decentralized exchange (DEX) that aims to revolutionize the trading experience in the crypto market. It is a cross-margined DEX protocol offering spot trading, perpetuals, and an integrated money market bundled into one unified platform. The trading engine is built on Arbitrum, an Ethereum Layer 2 solution, and the protocol is described as a hybrid orderbook-AMM DEX with unified margin between spot, perps, and money markets. The VRTX token serves as the cornerstone of Vertex Edge's decentralized exchange network. VRTX is an ERC-20 token with a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens, of which approximately 528.36 million were reported in circulation. The project launched its token in November 2023. In July 2025, it was announced that Vertex would sunset the VRTX token and migrate its DEX to the Kraken-backed Ink layer 2, with the team joining the Ink Foundation. The token has since been reported as inactive and discontinued by multiple data sources.
Vertex Protocol was co-founded by Darius Tabai (also written as Darius Tabatabai) and Alwin Peng. The Vertex team brings deep experience from traditional finance and crypto trading. In July 2025, it was announced that the Vertex Protocol team would join the Ink Foundation to build a new project, coinciding with the decision to sunset the VRTX token and migrate the DEX to the Kraken-backed Ink layer 2.
Vertex Protocol operates as a cross-margined decentralized exchange built on Arbitrum, an Ethereum Layer 2 solution. Its architecture combines an orderbook model with an AMM mechanism, creating a hybrid orderbook-AMM DEX. This design provides unified margin across spot trading, perpetuals, and an integrated money market, all bundled into one unified platform. Cross-margining allows users to manage risk and collateral across different product types within a single account. The VRTX token serves as the cornerstone of Vertex Edge's DEX network. A Python SDK (Vertex Protocol SDK 0.1.0) was made available for developers, including an API reference with a VertexClient class for interacting with the protocol.
Vertex Protocol's primary differentiator is its hybrid orderbook-AMM model combined with cross-margining and unified margin across spot, perpetuals, and money markets. This structure aims to combine the speed and precision of an orderbook with the liquidity benefits of an AMM. The protocol was described as a hybrid between a centralized and decentralized perpDEX, and was marketed as a fast crypto DEX. Its integration of multiple product types into one unified platform was designed to offer a streamlined trading experience. However, its value proposition was significantly impacted by the July 2025 announcement that the VRTX token would be phased out and the DEX migrated to the Ink layer 2, with the token reported as down 98% since its November 2023 launch and subsequently listed as inactive and discontinued.
VRTX is the native token of the Vertex Protocol ecosystem. It serves as the cornerstone of Vertex Edge's decentralized exchange network, which integrates spot trading, perpetuals, and money markets. The token is designed to incentivize participation in the ecosystem through two key components: VRTX and voVRTX staking. VRTX holders could stake tokens to receive voVRTX, participating in the protocol's incentive structure. The token is also used within the broader Vertex Edge DEX network. Following the July 2025 announcement, the VRTX token is being phased out as the platform migrates to the Ink layer 2.
The Vertex Protocol ecosystem was built around the Vertex Edge DEX network, integrating spot trading, perpetuals, and money markets into one platform. In September 2022, Vertex rebranded with design by Altology. The protocol partnered with The O Show in a video titled "Fastest Crypto DEX Vertex Protocol." By January 2024, it was listed as #116 in DEX and #28 in Arbitrum by icodrops. In November 2023, the DEX saw increased volumes for spot and perpetuals. However, in July 2025, it was announced that Vertex would sunset the VRTX token and migrate its DEX to the Kraken-backed Ink layer 2, with the team joining the Ink Foundation. Following this, the project was reported as inactive by rootdata and as discontinued cryptocurrency data by blockspot.io.
VRTX is not a mineable cryptocurrency. It is an ERC-20 token issued on the Arbitrum network. Instead of mining, the protocol uses a staking mechanism where VRTX holders can stake tokens to receive voVRTX, which is designed to incentivize participation in the ecosystem. The tokenomics of VRTX involve a supply of 340 million tokens distributed over more than 72 weekly epochs. The vesting schedule for various allocations includes cliffs and vesting periods: Seed Round with a 6-month cliff and 12-month vesting, Team with a 6-month cliff and 18-month vesting, Future Investors with a 12-month cliff and 60-month vesting, Liquidity with 4-month vesting, Advisors with a 6-month cliff and 12-month vesting, Development with 36-month vesting, Treasury with 41% TGE and 36-month vesting, Market Maker 100% unlocked, and Incentives with 72-month vesting. Given the token sunset announcement, staking and incentive mechanisms are no longer active.
As with any ERC-20 token on Arbitrum, VRTX can be stored in compatible self-custody wallets that support the Arbitrum network and ERC-20 tokens. Users should always verify the official token contract address (0x95146881b86b3ee99e63705ec87afe29fcc044d9) before interacting with any token. Best practices for keeping VRTX safe include using hardware wallets for long-term storage, never sharing private keys or seed phrases, being cautious of phishing sites and fake tokens, and verifying official links through the project's website. Given that the VRTX token has been announced for sunset and the project has been reported as inactive and discontinued, holders should exercise heightened caution, stay informed through official announcements, and be aware of the migration to the Ink layer 2 when managing their assets.
