View ChartIndexed Finance (NDX) is a decentralized finance (DeFi) project built on the Ethereum network that focuses on passive portfolio management strategies. The platform provides a framework for creating and managing tokenized index pools, allowing investors to gain diversified exposure to a basket of crypto assets without actively managing individual positions. The native governance token, NDX, is an ERC-20 token with a total supply of 10,000,000 coins. The project launched on January 14, 2021. Its circulating supply stands at approximately 854,801 NDX, representing roughly 9% of the total supply. Trading activity is minimal, with very low 24-hour volume and thin liquidity across the reported pairs.
Indexed Finance was founded by Dillon Kellar, according to Tracxn (May 23, 2025). The protocol is governed by NDX holders through Indexed Governor Alpha, with proposals voted on by token holders.
Indexed Finance operates as a framework for passively managed portfolios on Ethereum, beginning with tokenized index pools. Users can invest in these indices to gain diversified exposure to a collection of crypto assets, simplifying the investment process by removing the need for active management. Participants can stake index tokens or their associated Uniswap liquidity tokens to earn NDX rewards. The protocol also features a locking mechanism called dNDX, where users lock NDX tokens for a period ranging from 90 to 360 days to mint dNDX tokens at a ratio ranging from 1:1 to 4:1. Governance is handled by NDX holders, who vote on proposals for protocol updates, the definition of market sectors, the creation of new management strategies, and the introduction of new indices. Governance runs through the Indexed Governor Alpha contract, with proposals discussed on forum.indexed.finance and voted on by NDX holders (voting is also referenced via Tally). The token contract includes events such as Approval, DelegateChanged, DelegateVotesChanged, and MinterChanged, reflecting its governance and minting functionality.
Indexed Finance distinguishes itself by bringing passive index investing into DeFi: users gain diversified exposure through tokenized index pools on Ethereum without actively managing individual positions, and NDX holders govern protocol updates and index creation.
NDX serves primarily as the governance token for the Indexed Finance protocol. Holders use NDX to vote on key decisions, including protocol updates, high-level index management, the definition of market sectors, and the creation of new management strategies. In addition to governance, NDX can be earned by users who stake index tokens or their associated Uniswap liquidity tokens. The token also plays a role in the dNDX locking mechanism, where users lock NDX for extended periods to mint dNDX tokens, which may confer additional benefits within the ecosystem. The platform itself is used to create and invest in tokenized index pools, offering diversified exposure to crypto assets.
The development status of the Indexed Finance ecosystem appears to have slowed significantly. CryptoSlate rates the asset's trading activity as "Dormant" (score below the 40/100 minimum threshold), and the project shows extremely low activity as of September 2026. Trading activity is minimal. Yahoo Finance lists 8 active markets and CryptoSlate reports 8 reported pairs, but CryptoSlate flags only one valid market (Bancor Network, NDX/BNT) and rates the asset's trading activity as Dormant. The token trades on a small number of reported pairs, and multiple data aggregators show very low liquidity and market capitalization. While the protocol originally aimed to provide a range of indices and passive investment products, as of the latest available snapshot the token has about 5.37K holders and a TVL of roughly $135.81K, figures consistent with very limited ongoing activity. The project had planned to distribute protocol revenue through NDX staking and to support the Arbitrum network; these plans are not reflected in current activity.
In June 2022, two governance proposals passed unanimously to enable redemption of assets temporarily removed from the DEFI5, CC10 and FFF pools; proposals 22 and 23 were executed on June 24, 2022, and a one-click redemption app went live on June 30, 2022.
NDX is not mined. It is an ERC-20 governance token on Ethereum, and rewards were distributed through staking: users stake index tokens or their Uniswap liquidity tokens to earn NDX from the protocol's liquidity-reward program. Proposal 17 routed outstanding NDX liquidity rewards to the staking Masterchef and terminated the program, so this reward path is no longer active. Additionally, the protocol offers a locking mechanism where users lock NDX tokens for a period of 90 to 360 days to mint dNDX tokens at a ratio of 1:1 to 4:1. There is no active mining hardware or validator setup required for individual users to obtain NDX; participation is based on providing liquidity or staking within the platform.
To keep your NDX tokens safe, use a reputable self-custody wallet that supports ERC-20 tokens on the Ethereum network. Always verify the token contract address (0x86772b1409b61c639EaAc9Ba0AcfBb6E238e5F83) before interacting with any platform. Store your private keys or seed phrase offline and never share them with anyone. Be cautious of phishing sites and fake token contracts, especially given the low activity and inactive status of the project. No public third-party audit report for the NDX token contract is referenced in the available sources; the project carries a CertiK rating of 3.0. Because the project is largely inactive, smart-contract and liquidity risks should be assessed independently before interacting. Consider using hardware wallets for long-term storage, and regularly review approvals granted to decentralized applications to minimize exposure to potential vulnerabilities.
NDX is a volatile asset whose price can move sharply, and regulatory treatment of DeFi tokens may change. Smart contracts and liquidity pools carry technical and counterparty risks. The points above are informational and should not be treated as investment advice.
