View ChartElectra Protocol (XEP) is the native cryptocurrency of the Electra Protocol blockchain, a standalone layer-1 network designed for near real-time transactions at minimal cost. The project positions itself as an operating system for instant payments, capable of sending value worldwide within one to two seconds for a fraction of a cent. The blockchain is built on up-to-date Bitcoin Core technology and uses an enhanced Proof-of-Stake consensus model rather than traditional Proof-of-Work. With a theoretical maximum supply of 30 billion XEP and a circulating supply of approximately 18.43 billion XEP, the network launched its mainnet in January 2021. Electra Protocol is community-driven, conducted no public funding, and continues to develop programmable smart contracts and payment infrastructure through its ecosystem.
Electra Protocol is a community-based project without a single public founder. Decisions on behalf of the community are performed by core team members located in many different countries around the world. Although the blockchain launched in January 2021, most core team members have worked together since 2017. The project is supported by the Electra Foundation and operates as a truly decentralized community initiative with over 30,000 members globally. Unlike most blockchain projects, Electra Protocol is not driven by a company and did not conduct any public funding. For commercial licensing opportunities, the development team can be reached at [email protected].
Electra Protocol operates on its own layer-1 blockchain using an enhanced Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism. Transactions are processed and received in the recipient's wallet almost instantly, with the received XEP spendable as soon as the first confirmation is achieved. The network is maintained by hundreds of nodes that keep the blockchain running and growing. Smart contracts and public tokens are supported through the Solidity programming language, allowing developers to build decentralized applications beyond simple payments. The blockchain also features Rosetta API integration, which simplifies interaction with the network for exchanges and developers. Staking is available for users who run a full desktop wallet, as it stores a complete copy of the blockchain and can receive staking rewards when left online and unlocked.
Electra Protocol distinguishes itself through several core attributes. It is designed as a regulatory-proof blockchain with immutable network rules, decentralized consensus, and no central interference. The project conducted no public funding, similar to Bitcoin, and is entirely community-driven. Its transaction speed of one to two seconds and near-zero fees make it suitable for real-world payment applications. The project emphasizes solving actual problems rather than building hype for short-term speculation. Electra Protocol also aligns with ISO standards and aims to become credibly neutral public infrastructure. Its flagship product, ElectraPay, offers e-commerce merchants an alternative payment method with lower fees, immediate access to funds, and automatic refund capabilities. The ecosystem supports DeFi, NFTs, gaming, supply chain management, digital ID, and Web3 applications.
XEP is the native currency used for all transactions performed on the Electra Protocol network. Its primary purposes include sending XEP coins in transactions and paying for transaction fees. The token powers the ElectraPay payment solution, which enables e-commerce merchants to accept cryptocurrency payments without depending on payment service providers, banks, or credit card companies. XEP can also be used for staking to earn rewards or providing liquidity. Beyond payments, the Electra Protocol blockchain supports a wide range of applications including decentralized finance, digital identity, NFTs, gaming, supply chain tracking, and Web3 solutions. Users can create payment solutions using smart contracts and issue their own public tokens on top of the network using Solidity.
The Electra Protocol ecosystem is expanding through both community efforts and the commercial entity Evoblox. Evoblox, born in April 2022, develops, improves, and commercially exploits solutions using the XEP blockchain. It supports the project financially through donations to the Electra Protocol Foundation and technologically by developing smart contracts, validator nodes, and other upgrades. Evoblox targets payment and funds transfer, traceability, data management, and turnkey white-label solutions. Recent developments include private payment solutions for Smart Cities, cross-border money transfer services, and customized environments for food companies. The project has also released XEP wallets for Windows, Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi, Android, and iOS, along with an enhanced block explorer, Rosetta API integration, and a smart contract wallet. Validator nodes are planned and being developed.
Electra Protocol does not use traditional mining. Instead, it employs a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism where users can receive rewards for staking or providing liquidity. To stake XEP, users need to run a full desktop wallet on Windows, Mac, Linux, or Raspberry Pi, as these wallets store a complete copy of the Electra Protocol blockchain. The desktop wallet must be left online and unlocked to receive staking rewards. Smartphone wallets, WXEP wallets, and hardware wallets cannot stake because they do not maintain a blockchain copy. This staking model eliminates the energy-intensive requirements of Proof-of-Work mining and allows more users to participate in securing the network while earning passive rewards.
For security reasons, it is recommended not to leave purchased XEP coins on centralized exchanges. Instead, native XEP coins should be moved to an XEP Wallet. Available wallet options include desktop computer wallets for Windows, Mac, and Linux, smartphone wallets for Android and iOS, and hardware wallets such as Ledger Nano. Raspberry Pi wallets are also available. If WXEP tokens were purchased on PancakeSwap, they can be stored in a WXEP Wallet or converted to native XEP coins. Users should ensure their desktop wallet is kept secure and consider hardware wallet storage for long-term holdings. The Electra Protocol community emphasizes self-custody and decentralized control over funds.
