US House Committee Advances Bill to Make Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Permanent, Holding About $24.7 Billion in Bitcoin
Odaily News: Bitcoin News posted on X that the U.S. House Financial Services Committee advanced the American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026 on September 16 by a vote of 28 to 21, aiming to enshrine the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve established by Trump through executive order into federal law and require the government to hold confiscated Bitcoin for at least 20 years.
The bill would also require public proof of reserves, independent audits, and a study on increasing Bitcoin holdings without raising taxes, government borrowing, or the federal deficit; the bill still needs to pass the full House and the Senate. Arkham Intelligence estimates that the U.S. government holds about 324,500 Bitcoin, worth about $24.7 billion, but the exact size has not been confirmed by unified government disclosure.
