Yuga Labs Deleted the Code that Allows the Creation of an Unlimited Number of NFTs

Yuga Labs deleted the vulnerable code. If the vulnerability is exploited, it can create unlimited NFTs for Bored Ape. Yuga Labs announced significant changes to the underlying code of the Bored Ape Yach Club NFTs. On Tuesday, it removed a piece of code that allowed the creation of unlimited bored ape NFTs.

This development comes one year after the company announced its plan to do so. In addition, this development occurred after Yuga Labs distribute server was hacked recently. This hacker attack led to the theft of NFTs worth 200 eth on the platform.

The Bored Ape Yach Club later fixed a vulnerability. If it is exploited, it can cast an unlimited number of NFTs on the platform. This unlimited supply expansion may lead to unfathomable losses for investors. When talking about deleting the latest code, Yuga Labs co-founder, a developer called emperortomatoketchup, said.

“Now the owner of the contract has been burned. Although we have wanted to do this for a long time, we have not done so out of caution. Now we feel comfortable doing so. It is all completed.”.

Bored Ape Hacking Vulnerability

Dan Kelly, CEO of nonfungibles, first discovered the vulnerability of the bored ape in June 2021. He gave an alarm that there was a code that allowed the bored ape to cast as many NFTs as possible instead of a hard upper limit of 10K.

That year, Yuga Labs replied that “obviously, we will never call that function again. We are planning to revoke the ownership in the next oneortwo days”. However, it took them a long year to actually implement these changes on the ground. It is surprising why the Yuga lab team is still so complacent in several phishing attempts against the Bored Ape Yach Club (BAYC) NFT. Just last week, the Bored Ape Yach Club faced a fishing attack, resulting in about 200 eth NFTs worth $357000. This is the second major attack on the platform this year.

In early April this year, Bored Ape yacht club faced another major hacker attack on its instagram account. This includes nearly 91 NFTs stolen from the platform. These NFTs are reported to be worth $2.8 million. Yuga Labs has a lot of work to do in terms of security to ensure that the interests of NFT investors are protected.
