Ripple unveils XRPL AI Starter Kit for machine-to-machine payment apps
In a major leap for decentralized finance, Ripple today announced the launch of its new XRPL AI Starter Kit, a powerful, first-phase development suite designed to integrate artificial intelligence with blockchain-based payment infrastructure. According to Ripple, this initiative marks the beginning of a multi-step plan to enable true machine-to-machine commerce at scale. The kit, immediately available, includes an MCP server, tools optimized for Claude, and native support for the X402 protocol. Critically, developers will have instant access to both XRP and RLUSD for intermediary transactions, signaling a bullish push to bridge AI innovation with digital asset liquidity.
Key features of the first phase
The announcement comes at a time when AI agent systems are moving beyond experimental usage and are becoming more visible in real-world payment processes. Developers can now access XRPL documentation directly through the XRPL Docs MCP Server, which is designed to reduce the need for manual document searches during development.
Glossary: MCP is a protocol framework that allows AI systems to interact more seamlessly with external tools and data sources. Claude refers to the family of generative AI models developed by Anthropic.
Among the supported clients are Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and custom agent frameworks. Ripple has also introduced two new Claude “skills” known as XRPL Agent Wallet Skill and XRPL Payment Skill. These provide structured access to essential ledger functions such as wallet creation, balance inquiry, sending payments, and transaction tracking.
Ripple emphasized that AI agent systems are no longer a vision for the future; they are already paying for computing power, settling invoices, operating within policy limits, and completing transactions without human intervention.
The company states that these tools are designed to reduce the initial technical burden for teams establishing agent-based workflows. Ripple indicated that developers can successfully run a verified testnet payment in under 30 minutes.
Why X402 protocol and XRPL stand out
The rollout also includes support for the X402 protocol in its initial phase. Integrated with contributions from partner t54, this enables agent systems on XRPL to use XRP or RLUSD for payments related to API calls, AI model inference, and digital services. This integration makes XRPL one of the networks supported within the broader X402 ecosystem.
Glossary: X402 is a protocol framework focused on establishing programmable payment flows for software systems over the internet. It is especially relevant in scenarios where AI agents provide services and receive automatic payments in return.
Several technical features of the XRP Ledger deemed suitable for this use case were highlighted in the announcement. Transactions are finalized within three to five seconds, eliminating uncertain pending states and enabling agent systems to proceed to the next step instantly upon confirmation.
The fact that transaction fees are fixed and predictable on the network was underscored as significant for systems managing multi-step budgeting. XRPL’s built-in decentralized exchange also allows payments to be made in different currencies within a single transaction, reducing the need for external bridges or swap contracts—another strength of the platform.
Notable points for enterprise adoption
On the enterprise side, the announcement highlighted built-in control features such as escrow, multi-signature, deposit authorization, and trust lines. These allow organizations to define transaction boundaries for agent systems without creating custom smart contracts. Ripple’s RLUSD, a USD-backed stablecoin, also offers a more stable nominal layer for workflows such as invoice settlement and payroll.
The announcement further noted that XRPL has operated uninterrupted since 2012 with no transaction reversals. This track record is seen as a crucial advantage for teams looking to launch agent-based systems that handle real capital.
