View ChartZeroLend is an open-source, non-custodial liquidity protocol that enables users to earn interest on supplied assets and borrow assets against collateral at variable or stable rates. It is positioned as a multi-chain lending market focused on Layer 2 networks, liquid restaking tokens (LRTs), real-world assets (RWAs), BTCFi, and memecoins. The protocol supports deployments across zkSync, Manta Network, Blast, Linea, and Ethereum Mainnet. ZERO is the native governance and utility token of the protocol. The token has a maximum and total supply of 100 billion ZERO. The project held its Token Generation Event on May 6, 2024, with a listing price of $0.0008. In February 2026, the team announced the protocol was winding down, citing unsustainable economics, thin margins, and rising security threats.
ZeroLend was founded in 2023 by Deadshot Ryker, Gafoor Khan, Joshua AJ, and Steven Enamakel. Ryker is described as the main and only founder, and his vision and leadership are cited as central to the project. The team identified a critical need in the DeFi lending space, particularly for multi-chain and L2-focused lending markets. The project closed a seed round on February 20, 2024, raising $3 million at a $25 million pre-valuation. Investors in the seed round included Morningstar Ventures, GBV Capital, Genblock Capital, Momentum 6, Newman Capital, Krypital Group, ViaBTC Capital, Asteroid Ventures, Banter Capital, Bison Fund, Blockchain Founders Fund, Cypher Capital Group, iAngels, NxGen, Ozaru Ventures, Transform Capital, and angel investor Avi Felman.
ZeroLend operates as a decentralized, non-custodial liquidity protocol built on smart contracts. Users can participate as liquidity providers by depositing assets into lending pools to earn yields, or as borrowers by supplying collateral and taking over-collateralized loans. The protocol supports variable and stable interest rates. It is deployed across multiple chains, including zkSync, Blast, Manta, Linea, and Ethereum Mainnet, leveraging Layer 2 scaling solutions for efficiency. ZeroLend also supports liquid restaking token lending, allowing users to deposit LRTs such as EtherFi, Puffer, Renzo, and Kelp and borrow stablecoins or ETH against them. Real-world asset lending is supported as well, enabling over-collateralized loans using RWAs. On zkSync, the protocol integrates account abstraction and gasless transactions to simplify user interaction. Security audits and safeguards were provided by Chaos Labs, Zokyo, Halborn, PeckShield, Sherlock, ImmuneFi, Cantina, Hypernative, and Hexagate.
ZeroLend differentiates itself through its multi-chain deployment strategy and focus on emerging asset classes such as LRTs, RWAs, BTCFi, and memecoins. At its peak, the project reported over 250 million in total value locked, ranking first on Linea and zkSync, second on Manta, and fourth on Blast by TVL. It reported over 100,000 daily active users, 15,000 daily active wallets, and over $1 billion in monthly trading volume. The protocol maintained close relationships with the core teams of zkSync, Manta, Blast, and Linea, and users were eligible for the respective L2 airdrops. ZeroLend also built a strong community with over 250,000 Discord members and 250,000 Twitter followers. Its native account abstraction and gasless transaction features on zkSync improved accessibility for retail users. However, the project ultimately wound down in 2026 after three years of operation, citing inactive chains, hacks, and an unsustainable economic model.
The ZERO token serves as the native governance and utility token of the ZeroLend protocol. Holders can participate in governance decisions that shape the protocol's future, including parameter changes and strategic direction. ZERO also supports staking, allowing users to earn rewards while contributing to network security and stability. Beyond governance and staking, the token was used in airdrop campaigns and points farming activities designed to incentivize usage. Users who supplied collateral or borrowed assets from the lending market earned points, and referrals provided a 20% bonus in points. PYTH stakers also received a ZERO airdrop based on the amount of PYTH staked. The token was listed on eight major exchanges, including OKX, Bybit, Kucoin, Gate, MexC, Huobi, Poloniex, and Bitget, providing liquidity and accessibility to a broad user base.
The ZeroLend ecosystem was built around a multi-chain lending protocol with deployments on zkSync, Blast, Manta, Linea, and Ethereum Mainnet. It integrated liquid restaking tokens from EtherFi, Puffer, Renzo, and Kelp, and supported real-world asset lending, allowing users to deposit RWAs and borrow stablecoins or ETH. The project ran multiple points farming activities, including ZeroLend Points, ZERO Gravity Points, Turtle Points, and LXP-L Points, to drive user engagement. It also maintained active community channels on Twitter and Discord. However, the ecosystem faced significant challenges. On February 16, 2026, the team announced the protocol wind-down and urged users to withdraw their assets. By June 29, 2026, the team shared the final wind-down announcement. The shutdown was attributed to unsustainable economics, thin margins, rising security threats, inactive chains, and hacks, marking the end of the project after three years.
ZeroLend is not a mineable cryptocurrency and does not use a proof-of-work consensus mechanism. Instead, ZERO tokens were distributed through airdrops, staking, and liquidity provision incentives. Users could earn ZERO by supplying collateral to the lending market, borrowing assets, referring new users, and participating in community activities such as Discord verification and daily engagement. The protocol also offered staking opportunities where users could stake assets to earn ETH APR and ZERO Gravity Points. PYTH stakers received a ZERO airdrop based on the amount of PYTH staked. The token allocation included 18 billion ZERO for airdrops, which were distributed to early users and participants in the ecosystem. With the protocol now wound down, these earning mechanisms are no longer active, and users were advised to withdraw their assets from the platform.
Keeping ZERO tokens safe requires standard cryptocurrency security practices. Use a reputable self-custody wallet that supports the networks on which ZERO is deployed, such as zkSync, Linea, or Ethereum Mainnet. Store your private keys and seed phrases offline in a secure location, and never share them with anyone. Enable two-factor authentication on any exchange accounts holding ZERO. Be cautious of phishing attempts, fake websites, and fraudulent tokens that mimic legitimate projects. Since ZeroLend has wound down, users should withdraw any remaining assets from the protocol's smart contracts and avoid interacting with unofficial or unverified contracts. Verify all contract addresses through official sources before making transactions. Given the project's history of security threats and hacks, extra caution is warranted when handling any remaining ZERO tokens or interacting with related smart contracts.
