Inferno Drainer Malware Returns, Stealing $9M from Crypto Wallets in Six Months

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the DeFi waters...

The notorious Inferno Drainer malware has roared back to life, siphoning $9 million from unsuspecting crypto holders since November 2024. This phishing kit specializes in bypassing wallet security—because apparently ’not your keys, not your coins’ needs an asterisk for ’unless malware steals them first.’

How it works: The drainer disguises itself as legitimate walletconnect prompts, tricking users into signing malicious transactions. Poof—your ETH is now somebody else’s exit liquidity.

Who’s affected: Primarily Ethereum and BNB Chain users, though the malware’s operators clearly aren’t picky eaters when it comes to digital assets.

Security firms note the attackers are evolving tactics faster than most projects deliver roadmap updates. Meanwhile, crypto’s favorite refrain—’we need better education’—rings hollow as another nine figures vanishes into blockchain’s Bermuda Triangle.
