Altcoins have stormed to their highest trading volume dominance on Binance in two years, capturing 65% of the exchange's activity as a massive $135 billion reallocates from the Bitcoin rally. Blockchain analytics firm CryptoQuant confirmed the surge, signaling a dramatic pivot in market momentum as liquidity rotates into alternative digital assets, a trend that could fuel further upside for altcoin investors.

Altcoin inflows climb during Bitcoin surge

According to data shared by CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost, Bitcoin’s recent price rally coincided with a robust expansion in altcoin activity and valuation. Over a short period, Bitcoin’s price advanced by nearly 30% while the market capitalization of altcoins—excluding Ethereum—grew by approximately $135 billion.

Darkfost used the Total2 index, which tracks the total market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies except Bitcoin and Ethereum, to measure the inflow of capital into the altcoin sector. The increase highlighted that money was not only entering Bitcoin but also flowing quickly into a broad range of alternative digital assets.

This trend became visible as Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange by trading volume, saw altcoins reach a 65% share of total activity. The move came as market participants rotated capital from major assets into smaller cryptocurrencies.

CryptoQuant’s analysis determined that Binance accounts for close to 40% of altcoin trading across global exchanges, making these volume shifts particularly notable for assessing broader market trends.

At the peak of the altcoin dominance, Bitcoin comprised just 21% of Binance trading volume, while Ethereum accounted for 13.6%. The sharp divergence marked a clear change in trader preferences during the rally.

CryptoQuant noted that altcoin volume dominance on Binance rose to 65%, representing the highest level recorded in the past two years as a result of rapid capital rotation from major coins into alternative cryptocurrencies.

Liquidity shifts across the market

The trend followed a period of comparatively low volatility and subdued activity in the industry. Bitcoin initiated the change by rallying close to 30%, according to CryptoQuant’s research, but the subsequent shift in trading patterns primarily benefited altcoins.

Data from the Total2 index underscored the extent of this shift, revealing a $135 billion increase in altcoin market capitalization. This calculation excluded Ethereum, allowing analysts to focus on lesser-known coins and tokens.

The liquidity movement was not limited to trading volume. According to Darkfost, the sharp rise in capital allocated to altcoins reflected a redistribution of liquidity within the crypto ecosystem.

CryptoQuant did not identify which individual altcoins received the largest share of inflows. The firm emphasized that the overall altcoin category experienced increased activity, with traders moving beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum into a wider variety of assets.

Market observers noted that these developments reversed previous market patterns, where trading activity was more concentrated in Bitcoin and Ethereum. For now, the data shows a significant expansion in altcoin participation among crypto traders.

CryptoQuant is a leading data analytics platform focusing on blockchain, on-chain activity, and exchange trading flows for institutional and retail investors.

Mini dictionary: Total2, a crypto market cap index that excludes both Bitcoin and Ethereum, is commonly used to analyze capital shifts among other digital assets, providing deeper insight into trends affecting alternative coins.

“This divergence speaks volumes about how liquidity is currently being redistributed across the market,” Darkfost observed regarding the growing dominance of altcoin volume and fading share of Bitcoin and Ethereum on Binance.
