XUSD is issued by StraitsX USD Issuance Pte. Ltd., part of the StraitsX Group, which is associated with Xfers Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based Major Payment Institution licensed by the MAS. This regulatory status is a cornerstone of XUSD's value proposition, setting it apart from many other stablecoins. The parent company, StraitsX, operates the stablecoin initiative with a clear mandate to build compliant digital payment infrastructure for Southeast Asia. The team behind Xfers comprises professionals with deep expertise in fintech, regulatory compliance, and blockchain technology, focusing on creating a trusted bridge between fiat currencies and the digital asset ecosystem.
XUSD operates on a simple and transparent fiat-collateralized model. For every XUSD token in circulation, an equivalent amount of US dollars is held in reserve. Reserves consist of cash, cash equivalents and/or short-term US government and public-entity notes, held in custody accounts on trust for holders, separate from issuer assets. Internal reconciliations are performed daily, reserve value is audited twice monthly by an independent firm, and StraitsX publishes monthly reserve attestation reports from an ISCA-listed auditing firm. The XUSD smart contract is audited by Quantstamp.
Reserves are held in custody accounts on trust for holders, separate from issuer assets, with licensed Singapore or permitted overseas custodians. Redemptions are processed at 1 XUSD per 1 USD, less any applicable fees, either via the platform or directly with the issuer after onboarding and whitelisting; the issuer may set a minimum for direct redemptions.
Users can mint new XUSD tokens by depositing US dollars into designated bank accounts operated by StraitsX's partners. Conversely, users can redeem their XUSD tokens for US dollars, which are then transferred back to their bank accounts. The smart contracts governing XUSD on blockchains like Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain facilitate the issuance, burning (upon redemption), and transfer of tokens, enabling fast, borderless, and programmable transactions while maintaining the 1:1 peg to the US dollar through the off-chain reserve management.
The primary differentiator for XUSD is its regulatory status. Being issued by a MAS-licensed entity provides a significant layer of trust, legal clarity, and operational oversight that is often absent with other stablecoins.
XUSD serves multiple purposes within the digital economy, leveraging its stability and regulatory compliance.
The XUSD ecosystem is growing in alignment with regulatory trends and market demand in Asia.
XUSD is a stablecoin, not a risk-free asset. On-chain transfers are irreversible; prices on third-party venues may deviate from USD 1; the issuer may freeze or repossess tokens under lawful or regulatory direction (e.g., sanctions or fraud); direct redemption requires onboarding and whitelisting and may be subject to minimum amounts and fees; operational, network and custodial risks, including delays during congestion, are described in the whitepaper.
XUSD cannot be mined. It is a centralized, fiat-backed stablecoin. New tokens are only created ("minted") when a user deposits US dollars with the issuer, StraitsX, through its authorized channels. Similarly, tokens are destroyed ("burned") when users redeem them for US dollars. There is no proof-of-work or proof-of-stake mechanism involved in its creation. The supply is purely a function of user demand and the corresponding management of the off-chain dollar reserves.
Securing your XUSD involves standard practices for managing cryptocurrency assets.
XUSD can be obtained through a StraitsX account by transferring USD via bank transfer, with 1:1 conversion between USD and XUSD; bank transfers typically take 2–5 business days, with a minimum of USD 10 and no fees. XUSD is also listed on multiple centralised and decentralised exchanges.
On the StraitsX platform, USD transfers in are free while USD transfers out cost USD 40; XUSD transfers in cost 0.5 XUSD (waived for transfers under 10 XUSD), and transfers out are capped at 30 XUSD on Ethereum and 1 XUSD on other chains.
