About Arbitrum

What is Arbitrum?

Arbitrum is an Ethereum layer-two (L2) scaling solution. It uses optimistic rollups to improve the speed, scalability, and cost-efficiency of Ethereum. Arbitrum also benefits from Ethereum's security and compatibility. It also offers higher throughput and lower fees than Ethereum. This is made possible by moving most of the computation and storage load off-chain.

Arbitrum was founded by Ed Felten, formerly President Obama's deputy Chief Technology Officer, Steven Goldfeder (CEO) and Harry Kalodner (CTO). The three co-founders met at Princeton University. The developers behind Arbitrum, Offchain Labs, have announced a shift to a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) structure—the Arbitrum DAO.

What is the ARB Token?

The ARB token is the native currency of the Arbitrum network and is used for governance purposes. Holders of ARB can vote on proposals impacting features, protocol upgrades, fund allocation and the election of a Security Council. The Security Council comprises 12 members who are elected by Arbitrum DAO participants and are responsible for addressing risks within the Arbitrum ecosystem.

ARB tokenomics

With a maximum supply limit of 10 billion tokens, the ARB token—Arbitrum's native cryptocurrency—was issued as an ERC-20 token.

Following the distribution of ARB through an airdrop, the Arbitrum Foundation became the Arbitrum DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization).

To celebrate this achievement, a substantial airdrop was held, distributing 1.162 billion ARB tokens (11.62% of the total supply) to users actively engaged with the Arbitrum ecosystem. This included individuals who bridged funds and conducted transactions on the platform.

Additionally, the Arbitrum DAO established a system through which a 12-person Security Council could be democratically elected. This council is responsible for implementing emergency and non-emergency measures to mitigate different threats to the ecosystem.

An L2 smart contract mechanism controls the yearly inflation rate of the ARB token, which can be up to 2%. This inflation ensures the sustainability of the Arbitrum ecosystem by enabling the progressive issuance of new tokens, thereby encouraging participation in the network.

Future Outlook of Arbitrum

A decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) governs the Arbitrum ecosystem, giving ARB holders a say in any proposed modifications. Cross-chain interoperability will allow the platform to work with tokens and coins on different blockchains without any hitches, expanding its potential user base. As developer tools and infrastructure evolve, building and deploying on Arbitrum is expected to become even easier, significantly expanding its reach.

Arbitrum's scalability and low gas fees could pave the way for more complex and decentralized apps on the Ethereum network, potentially leading to a wider range of use cases and adoption, thereby impacting the ecosystem. Simply being part of the market could encourage other L2s to improve their services and innovate.

Arbitrum FAQs

What is Arbitrum (ARB)? Optimistic Rollups & Fraud Proofs

Arbitrum is a leading Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution built for Ethereum. Key features and mechanisms include:
1. Optimistic Rollup Technology: Bundles hundreds of transactions off-chain and submits compressed data to the Ethereum mainnet, significantly lowering gas fees and boosting throughput (TPS).
2. Fraud Proofs: Operates on an "optimistic" assumption that all transactions are valid by default, while allowing validators to submit fraud proofs during a dispute window. Arbitrum uses Multi-round Fraud Proofs to resolve disputes on-chain at minimal cost.
3. Full EVM Compatibility: Following the Arbitrum Nitro upgrade, the network offers seamless Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, allowing developers to deploy Ethereum smart contracts without code modifications.

Arbitrum Orbit & Stylus: L3 Networks & Multi-Language Contracts

Arbitrum expands its ecosystem and scalability through Orbit and Stylus architectures:
1. Arbitrum Orbit: Enables developers to launch permissionless Layer 3 (L3) networks on top of Arbitrum One or Nova, with full customization over gas tokens, governance models, and Data Availability (DA) layers.
2. Stylus Upgrade (WASM Support): Introduces a WebAssembly (WASM) virtual machine alongside the EVM, enabling smart contract execution in high-performance languages such as Rust, C, and C++ alongside Solidity.
3. Cost & Performance Efficiency: Stylus significantly cuts memory and compute overhead, unlocking possibilities for high-frequency trading (HFT), fully on-chain gaming, and complex AI models.

ARB Tokenomics & How Arbitrum DAO Governance Works

ARB is the native governance token of the Arbitrum ecosystem, empowering token holders to shape the network's future:
1. Decentralized Governance: ARB token holders vote on protocol upgrades, parameter adjustments, treasury allocations, and DAO proposals across Arbitrum One and Nova.
2. Arbitrum DAO Treasury: Manages a large treasury reserve of ARB tokens to fund ecosystem growth initiatives (such as the STIP program), attract builders, and deepen market liquidity.
3. Transaction Gas Fees: Network gas fees on Arbitrum are still paid in ETH, while the ARB token is used strictly for governance and ecosystem expansion.

ARB Futures Trading: Setting Take-Profit & Stop-Loss (TP/SL)

Setting up TP/SL orders correctly is essential for risk management when trading ARB futures with leverage:
1. Support/Resistance Stop-Loss: When opening a Long position, place your SL 1.5% to 3% below key support levels (such as recent swing lows or the 20 EMA). For Short positions, set your SL above key resistance.
2. Partial Take-Profit (Partial TP): When price reaches your first price target, close 50% of your position to lock in gains and move your remaining SL to Break-Even.
3. Trailing Stop: In strong trending markets, activate a Trailing Stop order so your take-profit target automatically trails the price action to maximize upside.

When the crypto market enters a downtrend or ARB breaks key technical support levels, you can profit by opening short positions:
1. Open a Short Position: On the BTCC trading interface, select the ARB/USDT perpetual contract, choose your leverage level, enter your order size, and click "Sell / Short".
2. Spot Portfolio Hedging: If you hold ARB in your spot wallet or staking portfolio, you can open an equivalent short position in futures to hedge against price drops and lock in portfolio value.
3. Trailing Stop Execution: In a sharp sell-off, set up a Trailing Stop order so your take-profit target automatically moves lower as the price declines.

Is High Leverage Safe for ARB Futures Trading in Crypto?

While using high leverage amplifies prospective profits, it proportionally escalates account liquidation risk:
1. Leverage Ratio Management: Beginners and risk-averse traders should keep leverage between 5x and 20x to maintain an adequate margin buffer.
2. Altcoin Volatility: Altcoins experience intense short-term price fluctuations. Leverage exceeding 50x can be easily liquidated by temporary market wicks or price spikes.
3. Margin Monitoring: Keep a close eye on your account margin ratio, add margin when necessary, and strictly execute your stop-loss plan.
