Snoop Dogg is Bringing Digital Weed to the Metaverse
2022/04/25By:
Snoop Dogg is planning to grow digital weed in the metaverse.
Mobland — which describes itself as the “first-ever mafia metaverse” (that sounds great) — announced the new collaboration on Twitter.
Of course, the news came on 4/20… a day with special significance for people who smoke pot.
A limited collection of Snoop Dogg’s digital weed farms are going to be available to buy — and while owners won’t be able to feel the physical effects of this virtual marijuana, they’ll certainly be hoping that prices get high.
Mobland’s co-founder Roy Liu said his project is looking for “more ways to give back to the cannabis community,” adding:
“NFT 1.0 is about individual character and item, NFT 2.0 is about land and real estate, NFT 3.0 is about business and utility on top of the land and real estate.”
From Play-to-Earn to Grow-to-Earn
The weed farms also mark a transition from play-to-earn to “grow-to-earn.”
Snoop has teamed up with his son Cordell Broadus (also known as Champ Medici) for the new partnership — their latest in a long line of collaborations across the fast-moving NFT space. The A-lister said:
“If it’s flipping hamburgers at McDonald’s, be the best hamburger flipper in the world. Whatever it is you do you have to master your craft. I have been mastering my craft for decades. My son showed me the importance of collaboration with Mobland to introduce the first-ever digital weed farms as NFTs. There is a paradigm shift happening here and I want to be at the forefront of this.”
Meanwhile, Champ Medici added in a tongue-in-cheek quote:
“I saw my father play video games my whole life. Cannabis and game controllers live hand in hand with him, that’s why I think it’s no brainer to bring the metaverse and digital weed together.”
Snoop Dogg is yet to tweet about his involvement in Mobland, but Champ Medici appeared to confirm the news with a quote tweet.
To be fair, 4/20 is one of the rapper’s favorite days of the year — and last night, Snoop checked in with his 20 million followers to see if they were celebrating.
The star also took the opportunity to release limited-edition NFTs “for a special 420 edition mix” of music.
It now has a community of roughly 500,000 people — with 8,000 NFTs sold out in just 18 minutes, according to Mobland’s website.
