Volkswagen is testing blockchain to integrate electric vehicle networks

Automakers everywhere are betting big on electric cars as the world begins to promote environmentally friendly modes of transportation. Recently, Energy Web (EWT) plans to use blockchain technology to help ensure an efficient future for Volkswagen electric vehicles.

The desire to eliminate gas-powered vehicles is essential, but this goal is difficult to achieve. Despite the potential for clean energy, a major challenge remains today between EV solutions and the global grid.

To demonstrate this, Energy Web (EWT), a nonprofit that focuses on energy transition through open source technologies, announced a partnership with Volkswagen Group Innovation, research division of Volkswagen, to study how to use open source software to integrate electric vehicles and charging stations. into the global grid.

Jesse Morris, chief commercial officer of Energy Web, says that the company’s vision is to allow Volkswagen EVs or charging stations to be digitalized and possibly enter any energy market: “What we aim to do is create an environment where vehicle users and toll booth operators can operate at certain times of the day under the most reliable grid conditions.”

Energy Web’s partnership with Volkswagen Innovation will develop and test open-source software to enable electric vehicles to enter the electric market. Will test the pair of open source technology of the Energy Web with Volkswagen IT block to determine the most efficient way to integrate all Volkswagen assets.

While the success of the experiment has yet to be determined, Marvin Schroeder, project lead at Volkswagen Group Innovation, mentioned that the company is very interested in exploring the possibilities that blockchain technology might have for Smart charging app.
